Summary of the Electromagnetic Spectrum
The electromagnetic spectrum can be summarized by observing how wavelength, frequency, and energy are all related:
- on the left-hand side of the spectrum, the long wavelengths have a low frequency and low energy
- as the wavelength gets shorter (moving to the right), both the frequency and energy increase
- they are all waves
- they are all forms of energy
- they are all produced by the Sun
- they all travel at the same speed from the Sun to Earth and beyond—this speed is sometimes referred to as the speed of light
